The Institute of Child Health (ICH), Chattogram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital, is a leading institution dedicated to child health education, training, and specialized medical services in Bangladesh.

The institute was founded by the late Professor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, the Founder and First Director of ICH, and a pioneer in pediatric medicine in Bangladesh. Under his leadership and guidance, this journey of advancing child health education and professional training began.

In 1997, the postgraduate Diploma in Child Health (DCH) program was introduced with the goal of improving child healthcare services. Currently, 6 doctors are admitted each year. The course is approved by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BM&DC), and Bangladesh Medical University (BMU). At present, the 28th batch is ongoing. A total of 151 doctors have participated in this program, of whom 116 have successfully completed their postgraduate training.

Later, the MD (Pediatrics) program was introduced to develop specialist pediatricians. Each year, 2 doctors are admitted, and currently the 5th batch is ongoing. This training is conducted in coordination with BCPS Part-II.

In addition, ICH offers FCPS Part-II Training, which is recognized by the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS). Training opportunities are available in Pediatrics, Neonatology, Pediatric Neurology, and other subspecialties.

The core mission of ICH is to contribute to national child healthcare through advanced training, skilled human resource development, and research. The institute remains committed to ensuring the well-being of newborns and children and to building a healthier future for the next generation.
